Palo Duro Canyon has many opportunities for you to get involved. A popular volunteer opportunity is the PARK HOST program.
Park Hosts are volunteers who supplement the park staff in the operation of the park. Hosts greet campers, greet and provide information to park visitors, assist in the maintenance and repair of the park, assist in interpreting the park to the park visitors, and help serve as the "eyes and ears" of the staff as they perform their duties.
Park Hosts will serve 24 hours per week. In exchange, Park Hosts are provided a campsite with electricity and water at no charge. Some sites have sewer hookups as well. Hosts will be provided an information booklet and will be instructed in the performance of their duties. Park Hosts are provided identification as volunteer workers.
Park Hosts are asked to serve a minimum of one month. Additional length of service is dependant upon the hosts schedule, the availability of the position, and the availability of the sites.
At the time of the agreement, the Park Hosts will be asked to make a firm commitment to the park, as it is very difficult to arrange for substitutes on short notice.
